Supply Chain Planning (SCP) solutions are solutions that use complex algorithms, optimization techniques, and heuristics to solve supply chain problems that occur in the planning horizon (over one week to one month for tactical planning, one month to several months for operational planning, and one year to multiple years for strategic planning).While there are a variety of payback buckets from SCP, one payback bucket for all SCP solutions is the reduction in inventories (raw material, work-in-process, or finished goods inventories depending upon the solution).
The impact of the recession on the SCP market will be dramatic. During the last
recession, suppliers argued that supply chain solutions helped companies to cut costs, which was of paramount importance during a downturn, and thus companies would continue to invest in SCP. They were mistaken.Whether the market is in recession or growing strongly, new companies will continue to buy SCP for the first time while many in the installed base will continue to expand their SCP footprint. SCP suppliers need to continue to invest in solutions that have desirable features and functions.
