Arctic Grade Cable to BS6500
BS6500 Arctic Grade Cable is so-called because it will remain flexible at sub-zero temperatures – as low as -20°C. The Arctic Grade Cable has class 5 flexible plain copper conductors, arctic grade PVC insulation and a blue or yellow arctic grade PVC sheath. Its ability to withstand severe external temperatures makes BS6500 Arctic Grade Cable suitable for outdoor applications. When operated at normal temperatures, Arctic Grade mains cords are very limp and flexible, displaying some of the characteristics usually expected in elastomeric cables.
Control Cables
YY Control Cable, SY Control Cable and CY Control Cable are flexible instrumentations cables – with a voltage rating of 300V/500V – designed for use as an interconnecting cable in signal and control equipment – for measuring, control or regulation.
YY Control Cable to BS6500
YY Control Cable is a multi-core cable with class 5 stranded copper conductors, PVC insulation and a grey PVC sheath. YY Cable is also referred to as Instrumentation Cable, Unscreened, Flexible or Unshielded Control Cable and YY Control Flex. Projects in public buildings, such as offices, schools and hospitals will specify a LS0H version of YY Cable. Similar in construction to the YY PVC Control Flexible Cable, the LS0H YY Flex uses XLPE insulation and a grey LS0H sheath in place of PVC layers.
SY Control Cable to BS6500
SY Flex is a built in much the same way as YY Control Cable – with class 5 flexible annealed plain copper conductors, PVC insulation and a transparent PVC sheath. SY Control Flexible Cable has the added benefit of a galvanised steel wire braid with PVC bedding for mechanical protection so it can cope with situations of medium to high stress. SY Cable is also known as Flexible or Braided Control Cable, SY Control Flex and Instrumentation Cable.
CY Control Cable to BS6500
CY Cable is a flexible multi-core cable with class 5 flexible plain copper conductors, PVC insulation, a PETP (Polyethylene Terephthalate) separator, a tinned copper wire braid and a grey PVC sheath. The construction of a LS0H CY Control Cable differs slightly – XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) insulation and a LS0H sheath are used in place of the PVC layers. CY Cable is also known as Instrumentation Cable, CY Flex, CY Control Flex, Robotic Cable, Copper Screened Control Cable, Shield Control Cable, Motor Cable, Multi-core Cable and Screened Cable.
Flexes
Domestic wiring – for anything from pendant lighting drops to washing machines – these cables meet the requirements of BS6500.
218-Y Flexible Cable to BS6500
Fitted in light portable appliances such as radios, table lamps and office machines, you’re never far away from a 218-Y Cable. The 218-Y Flex has class 5 copper conductors, PVC insulation and a black or white PVC sheath. The voltage rating for 218-Y Flex is 300V/300V and the harmonisation code is H03VV-F. 218-Y is often referred to as Flexible Cord.
2192Y Flexible Cable to BS6500
2192Y Cable is an indoor wiring cable, used on pendant lighting drops and as a general supply lead. 2192Y Cable is similar to 218-Y Cable, with its class 5 copper conductors, PVC insulation, black or white PVC sheath and voltage rating of 300V/300V. The 2192Y Flexible Cable is flat rather than circular in construction, with non-divisible cores. The harmonisation code for 2192Y Flex is H03VVH2-F. 2192Y is also known as Flat Flex Cable or simply Flexible Cord.
318-Y Flexible Cable to BS6500
318-Y Cable is designed for use in household appliances such as washing machines, vacuums, spin dryers and refrigerators. The 318-Y Flex has class 5 copper conductors, PVC insulation and a black or white PVC sheath. The difference between the 218-Y and the 318-Y is the voltage rating – 318-Y has a rating of 300V/500V. The harmonisation code for 318-Y Cable is H05VV-F. 318-Y is often known as Extension Lead Cable or Trailing Socket Cable.
309-Y Flexible Cable to BS6500
309-Y is constructed in much the same way as 318-Y Cable – although it is only available in white. Unlike the temperature rating on a 318-Y Cable, however, 309-Y can withstand high temperatures – up to 90°C, which makes it suitable for use as internal wiring or supply cords to electrical apparatus. The harmonisation code for 309-Y Cable is H05V2V2-F. 309-Y is also referred to as Heat Resisting Cable or Domestic Flex.
318-TQ Cable to BS6500
Kitchens, offices and areas housing immersion heaters is where you’ll find the 318-TQ Cable. 318-TQ Cable has flexible tinned copper conductors, EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber) insulation, a white CSP (Chlorosulphonated Polyethylene) sheath and a voltage rating of 300V/500V. Able to withstand temperatures up to 85°C, the 318-TQ Cable is suitable for high temperature environments. The harmonisation code for 318-TQ Cable is H05BN4-F. 318-TQ is also referred to as TQ Cable or Flexible Cord.
